Recoverable Damages in Your New York City Personal Injury Accident Case
Personal injury cases are designed to have two primary purposes:
- To hold negligent parties accountable for their careless or reckless actions.
- To ensure the victims receive compensation for their expenses and losses, so they do not have to cover the costs and bear the brunt of the accident they did not cause.
Our attorneys keep these purposes in mind when we take legal action on behalf of our clients. We identify the liable party and how their actions affected our client. In addition to the purposes stated above, it is our belief that holding reckless people accountable is the best way to impress upon them, and teach others by example, not to conduct themselves in that manner in the future.
We also collect documentation and evidence to prove your economic losses and expenses and your noneconomic damages. This allows us to pursue many types of damages on your behalf, including:
- Medical treatment and care
- Other care costs related to your injuries
- Lost wages and benefits and diminished earning capacity
- Property damages
- Pain and suffering
- Mental anguish
- Diminished life enjoyment
We also take on wrongful death cases. If your loved one was a tourist involved in an accident in New York City and passed away, we offer you our sincere condolences. We are here to offer support and legal representation. We are dedicated to winning the compensation you need and the justice your departed loved one deserves.

Another consideration in deciding whether to take prompt action or delay consulting with an experienced, dedicated vacation-accident lawyer, is the strength of the case. It is best to collect evidence, such as witness statements or video surveillance as soon after the accident as possible, or such evidence can become unavailable. For these reasons and others, the sooner you consult with us, the greater our opportunity to build the strongest case possible.

New York Accidents Involving Tourists News
Tourist Requires Amputation After Falling On Subway Tracks
Considering that the New York Subway system is one of the world’s busiest, it’s a wonder that we don’t hear more reports of people falling onto the subway tracks. It’s been known to happen frequently. Sometimes, people trip and fall onto the tracks. There are also instances where someone has dropped something onto the tracks, most frequently phones or earbuds, and ventures down there to retrieve them. Sometimes, people might be unintentionally bumped onto the tracks. In rarer cases, a person is assaulted and pushed onto the tracks. Unfortunately, there is not always time for someone to get back up onto the platform before a train arrives.
The New York Post reports that a 23-year-old tourist fell onto the subway tracks, resulting in her legs being amputated. The incident happened at about 4 a.m. on January 11th at a 14th Street subway station.
A 23-year-old tourist from Brisbane, Australia had been visiting a friend when she tumbled onto the subway tracks. She was run over by all seven cars. Around 20 minutes later, another train approached the station and the conductor was able to spot her due to her bright outfit. The conductor was able to stop the train in time to avoid running her over a second time.
The tourist suffered from multiple injuries. Those injuries included injuries to her head and fractured vertebrae. She was also forced to undergo surgery to have both legs amputated. A spokesperson for transit confirmed the accident and the injuries.
Two Hot Air Balloon Accidents Hurt 14 People Last Weekend
Long before the Wright brothers made their famed first flight in North Carolina, people had been taking to the skies in hot air balloons. Hot air balloons have been in use since 1783 and have long been a popular method of aerial tourism. While traveling in a hot air balloon is relatively safe, some of the deadliest accidents in the history of the practice have been recorded in recent years.
ABC Buffalo reports that 14 people were involved in two separate Allegany County hot air balloon accidents.
According to New York State Police, the incidents occurred in the Allegany County Town of Hume. They happened about ten minutes and approximately five miles apart from one another.
The first incident, which occurred just before 8 p.m. on Thursday near Mills Road. Nine people were aboard the flight that departed from Letchworth. The balloon encountered strong winds and came down in some trees. The pilot was able to lift the balloon out of the trees and land in a nearby field. All occupants were able to stay in the basket. One person was transported to a hospital with a leg injury.
The second accident occurred about 10 minutes later and about five miles away. Five people on board the balloon encountered strong winds which caused the pilot to lose control. The basket came down hard in a field, ejecting two of the passengers. They suffered from minor injuries.
The Federal Aviation Administration was notified of the incidents. Foul play is not currently suspected as a factor.
In February 2013, a hot air balloon caught fire over Luxor, Egypt, killing 19 of the 21 onboard. In 2012, another hot air balloon hit a power line over New Zealand and caught fire, killing 11 people. All hot air balloons operated in the U.S. must be inspected annually and if used commercially, every 100 hours of flight time.
