How Dangerous Road Conditions Cause or Contribute to Accidents
Potholes can be much more than a costly nuisance. Hitting a pothole at highway speed could cause you to lose control and drive into a fixed object such as a tree, a median divider, the wall of an overpass or even into oncoming traffic.
Friedman & Simon, L.L.P. helps clients who are injured by negligent entities that allowed potholes and other dangerous road conditions to develop, including:
- Rutted pavement
- Poorly marked construction zones
- Faded road lines
- Missing or defaced road signs
- Burnt out street lights and traffic signals
- Untrimmed foliage and landscaping that obscures signs or potential hazards
- Debris or obstructions
- Improper drainage that allows standing water to make roads icy or otherwise slick and dangerous
- Insufficient snow and ice removal
Car accidents are not always caused by other drivers. If you sustained injuries from improperly maintained roads or defective automobile parts, you might be entitled to compensation.

Slick Roads Blamed For Bronx River Parkway Accident
The winter season officially began on December 21st and will continue through March 19th. During this season, take notice that 70% of America’s roadways lie in areas that will receive snowfall during the season. 70% of the population also live in regions where there will be snowfall this winter. For those on the roadways, they should also consider that 17% of all vehicle crashes occur in winter conditions, leading to 1,836 fatalities that are attributed to icy or snowy pavement. There are over 116,800 people that are injured in motor vehicle crashes that occur on snowy or icy roadways.
CBS Local New York reports that slick roads on the Bronx River Parkway may be to blame for a multi-vehicle accident.
The crash occurred at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon on the Bronx River Parkway. The multi-vehicle accident shut down the roadway until about 7 p.m.
The 15-vehicle crash occurred during a snowfall where drivers say that they were unable to see more than a quarter-mile ahead of them.
According to paramedics, there were 8 people who suffered from injuries in the accident. Their conditions ranged from minor injuries to life-threatening injuries. Six suffered from serious injuries. Many of the drivers blamed the crash on slick roadways and low visibility.
Brianna Almodovar said that the roads had not been salted at all.
Although only one inch of snow fell in the area, the low temperatures caused most of it to stick to the ground.
